About Track Lights

Conventional track lighting uses a mains-voltage rail with spotlight heads that clip in and swivel. It is the workhorse of shops and galleries, where what needs lighting changes with every new display.

Track light or magnetic track?

A standard track light is a robust, economical way to aim spots at merchandise or artwork. Magnetic track is slimmer, runs on low voltage and accepts linear and grille lights as well as spots. For a shop floor, standard track is often enough; for a home ceiling, magnetic track usually looks better.

Common questions

Which beam angle for a shop display?

A narrower beam (around 24°) makes a product stand out; a wider beam (36° or more) lights a whole wall or rail.

Can track heads be added later?

Yes, as long as the new heads fit the same track type and the circuit can carry the load.
