About LED Programmable Strip Lights

On ordinary strip every LED does the same thing. On programmable (addressable) strip each LED, or small group, is controlled separately, so light can chase, flow, fade and change colour along its length.

What you need

  • Addressable strip — identified by its chip type, such as WS2811 or WS2818.
  • A controller that supports that chip, with the effects built in or set from an app.
  • A power supply at the strip's voltage, sized for the full length.

Where it is used

Staircases that light step by step, running-water effects along a cove or facade, signage, gaming rooms and event lighting. Strip and controller must match, so buy them together.

Common questions

What is the difference between RGB and addressable strip?

RGB strip changes colour all at once. Addressable strip can show different colours and moving effects along its length.

Can it react to music?

Yes, with a music-sensing controller.
