About Bollard & Path Lights
A bollard is a short post with a light at the top that throws light downward and outward across the ground. It marks the edge of a path or driveway, guides people safely, and gives a garden its shape after dark.
The range includes mains-powered LED bollards in round, rectangular and sculptural designs, and solar bollards that need no wiring.
Spacing and height
- Bollards are typically 60 to 90 cm tall; taller ones spread light further.
- Space them so their pools of light just overlap — often 3 to 5 m apart, closer on a curve.
- Stagger them on alternate sides of a wide path rather than facing each other.
- Set them back from a driveway edge so they are not clipped by cars.
Mains or solar
A mains bollard gives steady light all night and suits driveways and main paths. A solar bollard avoids trenching for cable and is ideal for marking borders and secondary paths, provided it stands in full sun.
What to check
An IP rating of 65 or higher, a body material that will not corrode, a shielded light source so it lights the ground and not the eye, and warm white for planting and stone.
Common questions
How many bollards do I need for a driveway?
Measure the length and divide by the spacing — usually 3 to 5 m. Send us a plan and we will mark positions.
Do bollards need a concrete base?
Yes. They are bolted to a small concrete footing, with the cable brought up through it.
Warm white or cool white in a garden?
Warm white. It flatters planting and paving and is more comfortable at night.
