About Spike Lights
A spike light is a small spotlight on a ground spike. Pushed into a flower bed and aimed upward, it lights a tree, a shrub, a sculpture or a wall — and can be moved as the garden grows.
Using spike lights
- Uplight a tree from close to the trunk to show the bark and canopy.
- Light a wall or hedge from a metre or so away to wash it.
- Use two lights from different sides on a large tree.
- Hide the fitting among planting so only the light is seen.

How many spike lights does a garden need?
Fewer than most people expect. Light three or four features well rather than everything.
Are spike lights mains or low voltage?
Both exist, and there are solar versions. Check the product, and use the correct driver for low-voltage models.
