Pillar lights sit on top of gate posts and boundary-wall pillars. They mark the entrance, light the gate and are the first thing a visitor sees of a house.
Choosing one
Match the base of the light to the top of the pillar, and its height to the pillar's proportions. A hybrid model runs on solar with mains as a backup, which suits pillars where running a cable is awkward.

Can pillar lights run on solar alone?
Solar and hybrid models can. They need direct sun on the panel for most of the day.
