About Outdoor Wall Lights
Exterior wall lights frame an entrance, light a terrace and give rhythm to a long wall. The up-and-down type, which throws a beam both ways, is the most used in modern houses.
Placing them
- Either side of the front door, at about 1.7 to 1.8 m.
- Along a boundary or garden wall at regular intervals.
- On columns, to stretch light up and down them.
- Choose IP65 where the fitting is exposed; IP44 is enough under a deep porch.
Common questions
What does an up-and-down wall light do?
It sends a beam upward and another downward, drawing two cones of light on the wall.
Warm or cool white for an entrance?
Warm white is more welcoming and suits brick, stone and wood.
