About LED Aluminium Profile
An aluminium profile is a slim channel that holds LED strip behind a diffuser. It turns a roll of strip into a finished, straight line of light that can be recessed into a ceiling, fixed under a shelf or set into a floor.
Profile lighting is how the clean lines in modern ceilings and walls are made. This category has recessed, surface-mounted, corner, floor and glass-edge profiles.
Types of profile
- Recessed — sits flush in a ceiling, wall or joinery; needs a groove.
- Surface-mounted — a U-shaped channel fixed on top of the surface.
- Corner (45°) — throws light diagonally from a cabinet or ceiling corner.
- Floor-recessed — walk-over profiles for floors and steps.
- Glass-edge — lights the edge of a glass panel or shelf.
Why the profile matters
The aluminium carries heat away from the strip, which lengthens its life; the diffuser blends the individual LEDs into one continuous line; and the channel keeps everything straight. A wider, deeper profile hides the LED dots better than a shallow one.
What to plan
Measure the total run, decide the colour temperature, and choose strip with enough LEDs per metre to look continuous behind the diffuser. Allow for the power supply: it should be accessible and have about 20% spare capacity. Recessed profiles must be built in before plastering or painting.
Common questions
Is the LED strip included with the profile?
It varies by product. Check the listing, or ask us to quote the profile, strip and power supply together.
Can a profile turn a corner?
Aluminium profiles are joined at mitred corners. For curves, use a flexible silicone profile instead.
How long can a single run be?
Profiles are joined end to end for any length. The limit is electrical: long strip runs need feeding from more than one point.
