About Step, Deck & In-Ground Lights
These fittings are set into the ground, a riser or a low wall, so the light comes from the surface itself. They make steps and level changes safe and give decks, terraces and driveways a finished look.
Types
- Step lights — recessed into a stair riser or side wall, throwing light across the tread.
- In-ground lights — flush in paving or lawn, shining up a wall, column or tree.
- Deck and surface lights — low-profile markers fixed on top.
- Floor profiles — a continuous line of light set into the floor.
What matters
In-ground fittings need IP67 and good drainage beneath them, and must be strong enough for whatever passes over them — check the rating before using one in a driveway. A stair controller with motion sensing can light each step as you walk.
Common questions
Can in-ground lights be driven over?
Only those rated for vehicle load. Tell us where they will go and we will recommend a suitable type.
Do step lights go on every step?
Every second or third step is usually enough, alternating sides on a wide stair.
