About String Lights
String lights are rows of small lamps on a cable, hung overhead or wound through planting. They turn a terrace, lawn or café courtyard into somewhere to sit in the evening, and are a staple of weddings and events.
Hanging string lights
Run them between fixed points with a support wire for anything more than a short span, and keep them high enough to walk under. Decorative leaf and blossom strings are wound around branches and railings instead.
Common questions
Can string lights stay outside all year?
Outdoor-rated strings can. Check the IP rating and keep plugs and joints sheltered.
Can several strings be joined?
Many are made to connect end to end, up to a stated maximum length.
